Charles ‘Chuck’ Corbin Inducted into TAA Council of Fellows
Health and physical education textbook author Charles “Chuck” Corbin was inducted into the TAA Council of Fellows, which recognizes distinguished authors who have a long record of successful publishing. Any author whose textbook or other instructional and academic works have established his/her presence in scholarly publishing over time and who has been innovative in the presentation of material, is qualified for nomination into the TAA Council of Fellows. Induction into the Council of Fellows is the premier honor bestowed by TAA.
On behalf of the association and its Awards Committee, TAA Board President Paul Krieger, said: “I extend our warmest congratulations on your induction into the 2025 TAA Council of Fellows. This well-deserved honor recognizes not only your extraordinary accomplishments as an author, educator, and scholar but also your deep and longstanding contributions to the TAA community. Your body of work exemplifies the values and mission of TAA. It is our honor to recognize you with this distinction, and we thank you for the legacy you continue to build.”
Corbin has been a member of TAA for more than 30 years. He has attended many TAA national conferences at which he made presentations, served on a number of TAA committees and has been a regular reviewer for TAA Textbook Awards. He has contributed articles to The Academic Author and participated in blogs and the TAA Conversation Circle. He is also a major TAA donor.
Corbin is the author of 110 books in multiple editions, including Concepts of Physical Fitness, which received a TAA McGuffey Award for longevity in 1998, and Fitness for Life, Fitness for Life Middle School, and Fitness for Life Elementary School, which received TAA Textbook Excellence Awards in 1997, 2008, and 2011, respectively. Fitness for Life also received a McGuffey in 2022.
He has 223 journal publications including research publications, with the Journal of Teaching in Physical Education, his most cited publication. He has authored six national guideline or policy statements (invited), 15+ popular magazine articles (e.g., Better Homes and Gardens, Shape, Health), has multiple citations in popular periodicals and books, 206,06 Google Scholar Citations, a 68 h-index (Google Scholar), and a 164 i10 index (Google Scholar). He is a High Visibility Researcher, cited in Cardinal & Lee for Research Consortium Presentations and has top ten notables in physical education, cited in JOPERD. He also authored more than 100 newspaper articles on fitness, health, and wellness in Kansas and Arizona.
During his 55 years of teaching (public school and college), Corbin consistently received the highest (high-merit) evaluations for his teaching (based primarily on student ratings). He was nominated and was a finalist for outstanding teacher and outstanding graduate mentor awards at Arizona State University. He mentored 23 doctoral and more than 100 master’s degree students and served on more than 200 master’s and doctoral committees.
