Busy TAA People: Switzer receives award for contributions to community theatre

Mary Kay SwitzerTAA member and former TAA Council President Mary Kay Switzer received a Special Recognition Award from the American Association of Community Theatre for “far-reaching, special contributions to community theatre.”

She has won several awards for her playwriting and directing for A Repertory Theatre for fundraising events for charities and other worthwhile causes. 

Switzer is also retiring as Professor Emerita from Cal Poly Pomona. She will be recognized at a special ceremony for distinguished service, dedication to championing intellectual values and critical thinking skills, publications, courses taught, service as member of the Governing Board of the Academic Senate for several terms, production of several educational TV series broadcast over the cable services and awarded special recognition by FOX and ABC Los Angeles affiliate network news, in recognition of her accomplishments and contributions to the university as a distinguished educator, and for directing and receiving a special grant for a specialized computer center for advanced editing of TV programs.

She will be moving to Arizona where she has been hired to direct and produce theatrical performances.

Switzer has been a member of TAA and on the board since 1997, serving more than ten years as Secretary and one term as  President of the TAA Council.
