Member Spotlight: Takiyah N. Amin

TAA member Takiyah N. Amin is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Africana Studies at Davidson College. An academic author in the dance studies discipline, her most recent publications include an Article: “Arts in Society Redesign: A Learner-Centered Approach”, by Delane Ingalls Vanada, Dean Adams and Takiyah Amin, published by The International Journal of Arts Education; and a Book Chapter: “African American Dance Revisited: Undoing Master Narratives in the Studying and Teaching of Dance History” in Rethinking Dance History: Issues and Methodologies (Routledge.)

What are you currently working on?
Completing a book project that explores the work of Black women choreographers during the height of the US-based Black Power and Black Arts Movements.

Member Spotlight: Jose A. Carmona

TAA member Jose A. Carmona is a Spanish Instructor at Pasco-Hernando State College and Latin American Culture Instructor at Columbia College. As both a textbook and academic author in ESL, education, global studies, and Spanish, his most recent publication is Globalizing the Curriculum with the Latino Literature of the United States.

2018 Textbook Award Nominations Now Open

Nominations for the 2018 Textbook Excellence Award (“Texty”), McGuffey Longevity Award (“McGuffey”), and Most Promising New Textbook Award, opened September 1 and will run through November 1.

For more than 20 years, TAA has supported textbook and academic authors through these highly-recognized awards, given annually to emerging and veteran published authors in eight subject categories.

Member Spotlight: Siddhartha (Sid) Dastidar

TAA member Siddhartha (Sid) Dastidar is an Associate Professor (Adjunct) at Columbia University. As a textbook author in business, economics, and finance, his most recent publication is Capital Markets and Investments: Essential Insights and Concepts for Professionals (1st ed.).

What are you currently working on?
I am currently working on getting the word out regarding my recently published textbook. It is designed to accompany introductory/ intermediate finance classes that discuss the financial markets.

TAA signs on to Copyright Alliance letter seeking changes to copyright provisions of NAFTA agreement

The Textbook & Academic Authors Association (TAA) was one of 19 groups to sign on to a letter from the Copyright Alliance to US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer asking him to “modernize the copyright provisions of the NAFTA agreement for the digital age and to establish a template for future agreements.” Meetings to renegotiate the NAFTA agreement began August 16, 2017.

“The internet’s global reach has made copyright protections and enforcement increasingly important to free trade agreements,” states the letter.
