TAA member Neil A. Weiss dies
Long-time TAA member Neil A. Weiss died recently at his home in Prescott, AZ. Weiss was the author of more than two dozen highly successful textbooks on finite math, introductory statistics, probability theory and real analysis, including Introductory Statistics, 10e, and Elementary Statistics, 9e, as well as dozens of academic journal articles.
He was a professor in the School of Mathematics & Statistical Sciences at Arizona State University until his retirement in 2001. An outstanding teacher, he was recognized with a Dean’s Quality Teaching Award from the College of Arts and Sciences.
Weiss earned a BA in mathematics in 1966, an MA in mathematics in 1967, and a doctorate in philosophy in 1970 from the University of California at Los Angeles. He is survived by his wife Carol and sons Aaron and Greg, granddaughters Lilly and Holly, grandson Will, brother David, and sister Susan.
