9 Candidates running for TAA Council: Cast your votes!

Nine candidates are running for five open positions on the TAA Council, the association’s governing board. Three are officer positions, Vice President/President-Elect, Treasurer, Secretary; and two are Council positions. Terms begin July 1, 2015. Officers serve two-year terms and Council members serve three-year terms.

Mike Kennamer is running for the position of Vice President/President-Elect. Kennamer is Director of Workforce Development at Northeast Alabama Community College, President/CEO of Kennamer Media Group, Inc., and author of more than 50 publications. “I enthusiastically accepted the nomination to run for vice president/president-elect, as I wish to help continue the excellent progress made by current president, Karen Morris and support the work of president-elect Steve Barkan as we work to enhance membership benefits and reach additional authors while assuring long-term fiscal stability for TAA,” he said. Call for nominations to TAA Council

2015 TAA Council NominationsAs a member-driven organization, TAA relies on members’ willingness to get involved in governance and other activities of the association. The TAA Governance Committee announces a call for nominations for five open positions: Vice President/President-Elect, Treasurer, Secretary and two Council seats. The term for Officer positions is two years and the term for Council positions is three years, with terms starting July 1, 2015.

Council members are required to attend two meetings per year, one in January in St. Petersburg, Florida, and one the day prior to the association’s annual conference, held traditionally in June. Most travel and lodging expenses related to attending these meetings is reimbursed. Any member of TAA is eligible to serve on the TAA Council.

  • Robert Christopherson is an Emeritus Professor of Geography at American River College and author of several leading geography textbooks.
  • Jay Coakley is the founding editor of the Sociology of Sport Journal. 
  • Laura Frost is the Director of the Whitaker Center for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Education and Professor of Chemistry at Florida Gulf Coast University.
  • Richard Hull is TAA’s former Executive Director and the author of two textbooks and multiple academic monographs and journal articles.
